How to Get Around in Margate - Your Complete Guide
Walking in Margate
The best way to experience Margate is on foot. We’re a small compact town with two centres, the Old Town that hugs the huge sandy beach (called the Main Sands) and Cliftonville’s vibrant Northdown Road, which is up a hill, on top of the chalk cliffs.
Margate’s main attractions, including the Turner Contemporary, Margate Main Sands, and the Old Town, are all within a short walking distance of each other and the train station, but most of our town can be experienced from the car-free promenade that runs pretty much the length of the Thanet coastline.
Strolling through Margate’s historic streets and along the picturesque seafront offers a unique opportunity to soak in the town’s vibrant atmosphere and discover hidden indie stores and neighbourhood restaurants along the way.
